NIKON D40X, 1/250″, F5.6, ISO 400, 200mm – Altamont Fair 2010; Altamont, NY

One of the treats during the Altamont fair are the numerous equestrian events that take place not far from our smithy.  When these two fine geldings were being hitched to an antique grader from the Museum building (just to move it, not as part of any competition) they presented an excellent opportunity for a shot.

NIKON D40X, 1/30″,  F10, ISO 800, 105mm – Mineral Mound, Spa State Park; Saratoga Springs, NY

This natural mini-cave is the result of highly mineralized water evaporating on a daily basis.  Of all the mineral springs in the park this one has, by far, the most mineral build up.  In fact, the size of the total mound is easily 15-18 feet high.

NIKON D40X, 1/640″, F5.6, ISO 800, 200mm – Guilderland, NY

Since week 13 I’ve been trying off and on to capture water droplets splashing.  Although this is another failure to do that, I really liked the resulting ripples in this shot.  Taken during a heavy rain storm, there was just enough water and natural lighting that I think it gives the illusion that there are ripples in the underlying sidewalk.

NIKON D40X, 1/500″, F4.5, ISO 800, 86mm – Cheshire Railroad Stone Arch Bridge; Keene, NH

On my way home from an interview with the Living History Podcast this impressive structure appeared from around a bend in the road.  The parking area nearby looked to be still under construction but it was apparent that this structure is destined to become a historic destination.

After doing some additional internet research, once I got home, I’ve learned that it was constructed in 1847.  It is one of twenty large arched granite bridges and culverts on the former Cheshire Railroad.  Over all it measures 50 feet above the river, and spans 70 feet.

NIKON D40X, 1/125″, F8, ISO 1600, 200mm – Valley Falls, NY

This photo was taken off my front porch.  Although the butterfly is black and orange (and I don’t know what it is) I do know it’s not a Monarch.  What ever variety it is, it certainly was patient while took photos and had adjust the aperture a couple of times to get the depth of field right.
